NOW, I Love my pool thanks to C-Pool! (Part 2)

crystal_clear_water

A friend’s son (Craig) happened to be working for a pool maintenance company for the summer. He suggested that they might have a solution to the problem. Later that week Craig arrived in a pool store van with a few guys. They tested the water and looked at it generally. “Try this.” They said. They opened the back doors of the service van and removed a small plastic pail. It was unmarked. It was covered in a brown bag so you couldn’t see the name. They broadcasted the powder into the water. No other chemicals. They instructed me to backwash every 24 hours. “Do nothing else. Add nothing to the pool.” Then they left.

C-Pool. I loved it so much, I bought the company. (Part 1)

Jame's Pool

In 2002, I moved my family from a downtown property in London, Ontario, to a 16-acre estate on the edge of town. Technically, we were within the city limits but realistically we’re in farm country. We had a horse farm beside us and grain farms around us. The fields were alive with dust, pollen and phosphates from fertilizers. Half of our property was forest and a creek ran through it.

What is pH?

pH

We measure how acidic or basic water is by using the pH scale. The pH scale goes from 0 to 14, and is relative to pure water, at 7 pH ( neutral ). pH stands for “power of Hydrogen;” the measure of the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution.

When the concentration of hydrogen ions goes up, the pH goes down. When the concentration of hydrogen ions goes down, the pH goes up.

HOW TO CLEAR UP A GREEN SWIMMING POOL

Green Pool Water

If your pool is already green upon opening it, please first read our post How To Open An Above Ground Swimming Pool or How To Open My Inground Swimming Pool.

We suggest the following procedure:
1. Remove most of the large debris from the pool floor with a large leaf net (better than a hand skimmer). This will stir up the water, and may make your pool look much worse temporarily, but the stirred up debris will settle within a few hours.

CLOUDY POOL WATER: CAUSES CURES AND PREVENTION

Cloudy Pool Water Causes

In order to prevent cloudy water, we will examine what causes cloudy water in the first place.

Cloudy pool water is suspended particulates floating at all levels in the water and not sinking readily to the bottom. The particulates are typically debris caused by the degeneration of organic matter such as leaves and algae. Most pool owners experience this when they open their pools in the spring. However, in some instances during the summer, the water will mysteriously turn cloudy without the presence of this debris. Or so it would seem.

MATCHING POOL FILTERS, POOL PUMPS AND POOL SIZE

Pool Pump

Before you can select the correct filter for your pool, you must first select the correct pump for your pool. Your pool filter must be matched to your pool pump. For instance, if the filter is too small relative to the pump. the pump will generate more water pressure in the filter than the filter is able to handle. This imbalance will quickly break down the filtering material of the filter and that will diminish the effectiveness of the filter.
